In Damascena and Reginae, photographer and painter Jessica Wincek shares her unique eye. The images span the walls of the gallery forming a gradient from astructural minimalist paintings on one side to very subject driven portrait style nature photographs on the other. Developing a close relationship with the places she takes photographs, she returns time after time capturing moments in an ever evolving landscape. Her work explores relationships, intimacy, isolation, solitude, and crushing overwhelm through her empathetic connection with her photographic subjects. She finds a bit of herself in the world she sees. Jessica does not go out with the destination in mind instead letting the world reveal discoveries she captures. With recycled and repurposed materials in hand, she also lets the painting unveil itself on the canvas rather than targeting a destination. Unlike her color photography, her paintings are in grayscale. In the absence of color, her paintings explore texture, specularity and translucency. Whereas painting is a constructive process where she sticks to what she can see, photography is a capturing media where the sensor can capture more than she can see.

Jessica is a multidisciplinary artist and creative technologist with protanomaly based out of The Berkshires. The show will be at noon on Sunday the 8th of November at the Eclipse Mill Gallery in North Adams Massachusetts (243 Union St).
